In January 2019, British Canoeing Awarding Body launched the new Personal Performance Awards. They replace the Star Awards.
After extensive independent research and wider consultation with the paddling community, British Canoeing Awarding Body and volunteers have created a framework of awards. This framework represents and supports the diverse paddling community.
The new Personal Performance Awards are designed for paddlers wanting to gain recognition of their learning and development, in the craft and environment they choose.
The process of completing the awards is based on learning. The ethos of ‘supporting the paddler’ is the main focus of all the awards, encouraging individuals in their personal development.
Provider eLearning
The Personal Performance Awards Provider eLearning is designed to support Providers with the delivery of the British Canoeing Personal Performance Awards. The activities will give a range of information about how Providers can support paddlers and all the information they need to know about the Personal Performance Awards.
The eLearning costs £15, will take approximately an hour to complete and you will also receive the following upon completion:

Canoeing
Canoe Award
This award is designed to develop your personal paddling and decision making skills so you have a fun and safe day out canoeing.
Progressive Canoe Award
This award is designed to progress your judgment, decision making and expertise providing an understanding of journeying. As a canoeist you should be confident in planning and undertaking canoe journeys, anywhere from estuaries and coastlines to white water rivers. This confidence should be based upon both proficiency in skills and a broad appreciation of surroundings and environmental context.
Advanced Canoe Award
This award is designed to advance your canoe skills and your ability to make appropriate decisions for safe days out canoeing on rivers of grade 3(4), in open water over 500m from shore and in winds of up to and including force 5. On the sea, you will be operating along simple coastlines with easy landing throughout.
Freestyle
Flat Water Freestyle Award
This award is designed to develop the foundation freestyle moves that can be performed on flat water.
Freestyle Award
This award is designed to develop the foundation freestyle moves on moving water, waves, holes and eddy lines.
Advanced Freestyle Award
This award is designed to advance your skills to enable you to become a competent, all round freestyle paddler.
Polo
Polo Explore Award
This award is designed to develop your ability to apply appropriate decision making to underpin your skills for participating in the game of Polo.
Polo Perform Award
This award is designed to progress your skills and ability to apply appropriate decisions for participating in the game of Polo.
Polo Excel Award
This award is designed to advance your skills and ability to apply appropriate decision making to underpin your skills for participating in the game of Polo.
Racing
Racing Explore Award
This award is designed to help you have fun and feel confident in a racing canoe or kayak at the start of your journey into racing.
Racing Perform Award
This award is designed to progress your skills in a racing canoe or kayak, giving you the confidence to race at higher levels and transfer your skills to crew boats.
Racing Excel Award
This award is designed to help you to advance your racing skills in all environments, becoming autonomous in all areas; technical, tactical, physiological and psychological.
Rafting
Flat Water Raft Racing
This award is designed to introduce you to the raft racing specific skills which create an enjoyable and safe experience on the water.
Stadium Raft Racing Award
This award is designed to introduce you to the raft racing specific skills which create an enjoyable and safe experience on artificial white water courses.
River Raft Racing Award
This award is designed to introduce you to the raft racing specific skills which create an enjoyable and safe experience on natural rivers.
Sea Kayak
Sea Kayak Award
This award is designed to develop your skills and ability to apply appropriate decision making for an enjoyable and safe day out on the sea.
Coastal Sea Kayak Award

This award is designed to advance your ability to apply appropriate decision making skills to deliver a plan in an advanced slalom environment, using techniques appropriate to the environment and gate sequence. You will deliver with conviction and speed whilst demonstrating the ability to adapt your plan and take on appropriate opportunities in the moment.
