It has been another brilliant year for the Big Paddle Clean-up with a record number of people taking part across the home nations.
The Big Paddle Clean-up, which ran from 25 May to 9 June, saw an amazing 4,000 volunteers getting out onto the water or along the banks of rivers, lakes, canals and streams.
Paddlers recorded collecting 1,888 sacks 0f rubbish, and pulled out much larger items like crash barriers, fridges, chairs, shopping trolleys, toilets and fire extinguishers from the water.
Within those sacks, 7,809 plastic bottles, 2,374 glass bottles, 4,735 cans and 10,613 plastic food wrappers, plus a whole host of unusual items were reported.
Welsh paddlers played their part in the clen up with reports coming in from members of Cardiff, Brecon and Caerphilly clubs as well as a group from DoE Award all telling us about the great support they had.
We know that some events were cancelled due to bad weather but it’s not too late arrange another cleanup. Please do tell us about your cleanups as you do them It’s vitally important for us to have facts and figures for when we report back to Welsh Government about our members achievements.
